SAN MARCOS – Members apart of the Gearheads of Texas State find their drive from all things fast.

Jumpstarted circa 2009, the Gearheads of Texas State raced together to create a student organization by providing an outlet to those with a passion for motorized vehicles.

A Gearhead could be defined as “a person who is very interested in mechanical or technical things (such as cars),” according to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary definition.

To the men and women apart of the Gearheads of Texas State, that description only scratches the surface of what they are all about. Like any well-oiled machine, each piece is a little different but every piece plays an important role; much like the members of Gearheads.

“You don’t necessarily have to have a hot rod, or any type of fast car to come out here and be with us,” said three-year member Q Daugherty. “You just have to like cars”.

For that reason, the Gearheads leave a little leg room for members of community to participate in the weekly, Wednesday meet ups. Ranging from right here in San Marcos to all the surround areas, these enthusiasts are always up for a cruise.

“[We] pretty much just pick a nice hill-country road and ride around out there,” said President Paden Albin. “Favorites are Fulton Ranch Road and stuff like that”.

Meets often occur in the parking lot of Gold's Gym.

Therefore, if students or members of the community are concerned about familiarity of the area or even familiarity of those members already involved, they should keep in mind that these members encourage one another to hop in the passenger seat ready to make some life-long friendships.

“As long as you have some want or desire to learn more about cars, come out here,” said Junior Luis Ortiz.

Gearheads of Texas State encourage both their peers and elders in the surrounding areas of San Marcos to head out to their meets to simply hangout and even share knowledge.
